HAPPY HORSE DAY 2002
On May 26, 2002, on Memorial Day Weekend, we celebrated another Annual Happy
Horse Day here at LOS ACRES! We started our day around 1 pm with the American
Flag being carried by our good friend, Dan Barlow of Susanville, California
riding the beautiful dapple grey mare, PRIDI WOMAN (*Sidi-Brahim x Fadjurs
Suzanne). Along with Dan was our little 4 year old Josef Michael Paul Polk
carrying his American Flag on his love, his pony "JESSI". The National Anthem
was then sung beautifully by Jennifer, and during her song, our proud gentleman
*SIDI-BRAHIM was presented. "*SID" enjoyed himself during the wonderful
song.............at 28 years of age! His glistening white coat and his huge dark
Spanish eyes were at their happiest on our Happy Day.
We then showed some of our 2002 foals, including the elegant ISSADORABLE BRAHIM
(Julio Brahim x Fansidi), owned by Jan Bullington of Arizona. What a proud
little doll she is! Jan is an incredible artist, and she loves to paint her love
of her life, JULIO BRAHIM!
Next was our LOS ACRES LIBERTY CHALLENGE! Sixteen horses competed here from Los
Acres. We have a lot of fun with our own homemade rules for our Liberty
Competition..............anything goes! We pick out 3 judges from the crowd of
people attending our day. We always pick out people to judge that do not own
Arabian horses, and have never heard of a "Liberty Challenge" before. We pick
out a woman, a man, and a young teenager. Our music ranges in styles, so you
never know how the judges will score! Our score sheet is from 1 to 10 in two
categories: 1. is Music (How does this horse go with this music), and we usually
tell the crowd and judges a little something about the horse and the reason why
this song was chosen), then 2. is Horse (Is this YOUR dream horse?) Everyone
competing keeps their song a secret until the day, and also some come out with
pretty outrageous outfits too! They each have between 2 minutes to 2 1/2 minutes
for the song, so they can ride them in as long as they want, then turn them
loose when they want also! We have a real fun time with our horses, riders,
competitors, and judges. We have a great sound system here for the music. In
fact, the farmers nearby say they can hear the music while driving their
tractors in the fields!
We had the two winners from our last two years Happy Horse Day put on their
"act" with the music they used when they won. The first was JULIO BRAHIM with
his song, "Get A Hair Cut, and Get A Real Job". Of course everyone loves our
Julio, and his song was great with him and his long wild mane! The last horse to
perform for our day (while the judges were adding up the scores) was last years
winner, JAIR TAMAAL, and his song was "Bad To The Bone". What a demonstration he
put on! We decided rather than turn him loose to his song, this year he would
"fight the wheel bull"! He is being trained by Joao SerraCoehlo of Portugal for
Bullfighting, and Joao is in love with him. So..........."Airy" and Joao
performed to the music of "Bad To The Bone" fighting the wheel bull! This was an
unforgettable sight to see. The music and the performance were perfect for each
other!
Well, the winner of the LOS ACRES LIBERTY CHALLENGE was announced......the
winner was: THEE JESIDI JAMES!! (Thee Desperado x Jfarah Brahim, by *Sidi-Brahim
and out of a lovely Ferbeyn/Fadjur bred mare). The Champion Colt "Jesi" was
incredible to watch, especially for his owners, the Hoff Family of Irvine,
California. The Hoffs were presented over $400. from the other Liberty
contestants (winner takes all), plus a beautiful medallion of our San Joaquin
County. Second place was a tie between "Jesi's" mother, our Champion JFARAH
BRAHIM (*Sidi-Brahim x Bint La-Jura) being presented by Jennifer Polk and her
good friend Chelsey. Jennifer and Chelsey were dressed up as cute beach girls
along with Jfarah a beach girl too, performing to a great beach song! In fact,
Jfarah was wearing beach clothes and wearing PINK lipstick! Also tied with
Jfarah was our liver chestnut lovely mare, the Champion SPANISH SIDUCTION (*Sidi-Brahim
x Fadjurs Jatta). "Duction" was all dolled up with streamers and glitters, and
on her side she had the words painted "Rock 'n Roll"......and she was rocking
and rolling to great music!
Our day was indeed a "Happy Day". We had many people attend from all over the
world. We are very fortunate in our life to be sharing it with our beautiful
breed of horse, The Arabian Horse. We enjoy our "Happy Horse Day" here at Los
Acres to present these wonderful special animals to many people, many who have
never met an Arabian Horse in person. It is important as Arabian Horse breeders
to show new people what Arabians can do for you, and especially for families.
Visitors are welcome anytime to come by and visit us, and meet our "humans and
horses"!
